A message from university leaders about changes to IT governance
A message from the Provost and Vice-President (Academic), Vice-President (Operations and Finance), and Associate Vice-President and Chief Technology Officer.
April 29, 2024
Dear colleagues,
We are writing to inform you about significant updates to our IT Governance process, designed to enhance and better support teaching, learning and research at McMaster.
These updates are being introduced in response to the growing criticality of technology in our educational and research operations, necessitating a more structured, coordinated and strategic approach to managing IT resources amidst fiscal constraints and rising operational costs.
Starting in May 2024, we will implement an annual call for proposals for significant IT projects planned for the subsequent fiscal year, followed by a coordinated review, assessment, and prioritization process. This new approach to IT Governance will help prioritize initiatives that are most aligned with our strategic goals, based on defined principles that guide their endorsement, selection and implementation, while providing necessary planning and coordination time.
To support our community through these changes, a new IT navigation service model, MacITGo, has been introduced. MacITGo is designed to provide essential guidance and support throughout the IT governance process.
These modifications have been developed after extensive consultations with university leadership and have been endorsed by the McMaster IT Executive, the senior IT governing body at our institution.
For further details, please visit the McMaster IT Governance webpage.
We are committed to implementing these changes with careful coordination and consideration and we value your cooperation as we continue to refine our IT Governance approach to effectively support the university’s mission.
Sincerely,
Susan Tighe
Provost and Vice-President (Academic)

Vice-President (Operations and Finance)
