The Microsoft 365 migration project will modernize McMaster’s email and calendar environment and address a coming end of life support date for the current on-premise hardware and systems.
The main objective of the project is to migrate faculty and staff email and calendar data from the current Exchange on-premise solution to the 365 cloud solution, this includes McMaster retirees as well as Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) students. University Technology Services (UTS) will be partnering with the Faculty of Health Sciences’ Computer Services Unit (CSU), and the IT community at large, to deliver this project.
After the migration, the overall experience will feel very similar to today’s, with additional features and benefits, such as increased storage. Faculty, staff, and FHS students will continue to be able to access their email and calendars by way of on-device email and calendar software such as Outlook, and will also be able to use the robust web interface to access email and calendaring and to take advantage of tightly integrated collaboration tools. Retirees will also have access to this robust web interface.
Planning is underway, including the formation of a Project Team and Project Steering Committee, which will include representatives from across university constituencies to ensure that unique requirements across campus are captured. Details are being finalized for the project roll out, training, support, and communications activities and will be forthcoming soon.
