McMaster IT Data Centre and Server Space inventory project update
The McMaster IT Data Centre and Server Space inventory project was developed to support the McMaster IT Strategic Plan objective of delivering a seamless foundation, achieved in part, through an optimized IT infrastructure. The project direction was based on outcomes from engagement sessions held in 2019 and 2020.
A kick-off/engagement session with members of the McMaster IT community is scheduled for Thursday April 29th where the project scope, benefits, server space information for the inventory survey and confirmation of stakeholders will be validated and discussed. An inventory survey is currently in development and will be finalized after initial input from the community has been received. The launch of the inventory survey is expected to take place in early May and will be used to collect information on server space and data centres across campus.
Additional sessions will be held to validate and understand outcomes before a follow-up engagement session takes place in June to identify opportunities and recommendations for future phases.
This project is targeted to be completed by June 30, 2021. While no changes to existing services and locations will be made during this phase, this inventory will provide institutional leadership with critical information to make informed decisions for future direction.
