Started initially by the Tech RoundTable, MacDrive aimed to provide a distributed storage and locally housed solution for file sharing and storage, available for all faculty and staff. MacDrive has piloted a solution to allow all faculty and staff secure access to network storage to store and share content internally and externally to the university. Once the pilot is complete and MacDrive is implemented across the university, this solution will allow for aging network shares drives and possibly other network shares to be decommissioned.

Announcing the launch of the MacDrive project!
The IT Review Survey identified that faculty and staff needed to be able to share information securely and consistently. The MacDrive project addresses this need by providing secure, cloud, on-site storage, and file sharing capability to all faculty and staff. Researchers can now share documents with colleagues at other institutions securely and staff no longer need to figure out how to map and secure network shares to share files with their peers across campus.
IT Governance provided the framework for assessing the needs of McMaster and providing funding to build a scalable solution. MacDrive is being rolled out to all staff and faculty, for more information about the project milestones and the rollout plan see the project updates in Confluence.
