Cyber Security Awareness Month 2023 at McMaster: Step up your cyber fitness
October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month (Cyber Month), an important opportunity for the McMaster community to learn about cyber security and online safety.
Cyber Month is an internationally recognized campaign organized by the Government of Canada each October to help the public learn more about the importance of cyber security.
The theme for Cyber Month this year is Step up your cyber fitness, focusing on encouraging Canadians to stretch their cyber security muscles and learn more about staying safe online.
“This Cyber Month, and every month, we are encouraging community members to learn and embrace safe online habits while studying, working, or researching at McMaster,” says Tracy Dallaire, director of Information Security Services.
“We have a shared responsibility as members of the McMaster community to keep ourselves and each other cyber safe in today’s online world.”
Throughout the month of October, McMaster University will join other organizations across Canada in offering opportunities for community members to learn more about cyber security.
This includes the launch and promotion of a newly developed information security training program that provides information on how to spot email phishing, use strong passwords, and more. The course is open to all McMaster students, staff, faculty, and researchers.
In addition, cybersecurity tips and resources will be shared with the McMaster community through online websites and in-person pop-up events and activities on campus.
