Boost your cyber security awareness and win prizes this October
With many more staff, faculty members and students back to Mac and in hybrid environments, IT security remains important for our day-to-day activities. Our McMaster Information Security Services team has noted an increase in online attempts to steal login information. Safe online practices are a shared responsibility to help keep devices, accounts and data secure — for yourself and your peers.
Introducing GetMFA
October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM). This year, McMaster’s Information Security Services team presents GetMFA, a campus-wide campaign to share cyber security awareness and a chance to win some great prizes such as Apple AirPods, a Bose wireless speaker and more! Importantly, you also get to learn more and protect yourself along the way.
How to participate:
For the month of October only, McMaster students, faculty members and staff can enter the GetMFA contest by:
1. Completing the GetMFA quiz
2. Signing for multi-factor authentication (MFA)
3. Finishing the quiz and signing up for MFA will double your chances to win!
Please note that if you have already signed up for MFA, you will be automatically entered into the contest.
What is MFA?
Sometimes known as two-step verification, MFA adds an extra layer of protection to help prevent hackers from accessing your email and account — even if they have your password. All members of the McMaster community are encouraged to get MFA. You can learn more about MFA at McMaster here.
The McMaster Information Security Services team will also share helpful tips and cyber security information on Twitter and Instagram, so follow along to stay up to date.
No matter your role at McMaster, we all have part to play in keeping each other safe from cyber threats. Stay tuned for more information and resources being shared throughout October!
