New Data Governance Council will help shape data frameworks
Formation of the Data Governance Council
McMaster University has recently formed a Data Governance Council, which will play a pivotal role in shaping the direction its Data Governance program. The Council will oversee the development and management the data governance frameworks, including data quality standards, and will review and recommend data-related guidelines and best practices.
The Council will also serve as a central body for collaboration, working closely with various stakeholders to ensure that our data governance framework aligns with the University’s business needs. Information about the Council and its members can be found in the Data Governance Teams Channel.
Data Governance and Data Strategy Project
The kickoff meeting for the Data Strategy project was held on August 8. Members of the Data Governance community of practice will be engaged to understand how data governance supports existing data use as part of the Data Strategy initiative.
The work aims to identify the foundational structures, policies, and resources needed to implement a coordinated Data Strategy at McMaster, one that honours our decentralized environment while advancing a unified approach to data-driven decision making. These engagements are vital for demonstrating the concrete benefits of data governance and for embedding governance practices into everyday data management activities.
