UTS EDI Committee’s Harvest Gathering: A Feast of Inclusion and Tradition
In a heartwarming event that embraced diversity and celebrated tradition, the University Technology Services (UTS) Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Committee hosted a Harvest Gathering this past October. This event allowed staff members to get their hands dirty, quite literally, as they delved into the age-old art of sauerkraut making.
“This event is not just about making sauerkraut,” emphasized Zee Khurshid, Chair of the UTS EDI Committee. “It’s about embarking on a journey together, creating new memories, and in doing so, forging bonds that make us a stronger, more inclusive community.”
Established in 2017, the UTS EDI Committee is committed to learning, embracing diversity, and encouraging dialogues to promote equity and inclusion. Their recent Harvest Gathering exemplified their commitment to fostering unity and understanding within the UTS community.
Attendees at the event were invited to explore the rich tradition of preservation by crafting their very own jars of sauerkraut. Participants chopped cabbage, salted it, and packed it into jars to ferment. It was a hands-on experience that not only connected people but also shed light on the importance of preserving traditions from various cultures.
The UTS EDI Committee continues to make strides in promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion. This Harvest Gathering was about sowing the seeds of togetherness, nurturing diversity, and reaping the rewards of a more inclusive community at McMaster University.
For those interested in getting involved with the UTS EDI Committee, you can attend their bi-weekly meetings or connect with other members on the Committee’s Microsoft Teams channel. Not a member of UTS? Not a worry, you are more than welcome to get involved.
