McMaster IT recognized at the 2022 CUCCIO Awards

McMaster took home the Collaboration Award for CanSSOC Threat Feed initiative and the Community Award for Amplifying Digital Accessibility in Education initiative

McMaster IT is delighted to be recognized at the recent 2022 CUCCIO Awards presented at the Canadian Higher Education IT (CanHEIT) conference taking place at the University of the Fraser Valley this week.

Jessica Blackwood from the Faculty of Science and Kate Brown from the Equity and Inclusion Office were awarded the Community Award for their submission ‘Amplifying Digital Accessibility in Education’. This category recognizes where collaboration between institutions, campuses, faculties, and departments breeds creative cross-pollination. The award commends the generation and transmission of ideas and practice.

Congratulations to Jessica, Kate and their collaborators on this achievement for their work to make accessible content creation accessible to all, by leveraging existing technologies on campus to disseminate information to faculty, staff, and students through the Microsoft Office 365 suite, Kaltura, and eCampus Pressbooks.

McMaster was also the recipient of a joint Collaboration Award for our involvement in the CanSSOC Threat Feed. The CanSSOC (The Canadian Shared Security Operations Centre) partnership was established between the Universities of British Columbia, Alberta, Toronto, McMaster, McGill and Ryerson, to lead the incubation of CanSSOC and to develop a collaborative and community-driven approach to detection and response. There is an ongoing evolution of CanSSOC, supporting its integration with CANARIE; to build the necessary coordinated national approach to defend and respond to the ongoing cybersecurity threats. This award reflects McMaster’s ongoing commitment to strengthening our cyber security posture and partnerships. Thank you to all involved.

Additionally, there was a MacCheck nomination also within the Collaboration category. MacCheck was a monumental, collaborative effort from many across McMaster IT and broader institutional colleagues to keep our campus community safe. It was executed in record time with care and dedication. Once again thank you to the individuals and teams involved. We are truly grateful for your expertise and the experience that reminded us of the capability of this wonderful community.
