In this time of remote course delivery, there is increased need to understand the video streaming needs of McMaster faculty, students, and staff.  This project will assess McMaster’s five main services used for video streaming, storing, and hosting: Kaltura (MacVideo); Echo360; Mediasite (FHS); Youtube; and Vimeo.

The purpose of this review is to collect information about the satisfaction and needs for video streaming across the university. In particular, this project will evaluate the use of video in undergraduate and graduate level teaching and learning, however other video streaming needs outside of this (i.e. HR, central supports and services) will also be uncovered and considered. At the end of this project, the team will deliver a document containing an environmental scan of video streaming solutions available to the campus; the current needs of users who are using video streaming; desired capabilities of video streaming by the campus community; an in-depth investigation into how each meet and/or exceed accessibility requirements; an analysis on how the university and its corresponding Faculties handle intellectual property (i.e. creation of video content); and finally, a cost-benefit analysis and recommendations for next steps, including a timeline and associated resource and budget requirements.

Further work to implement the recommendations will be tracked separately and is out of scope for this initiative.
