IT Governance Flow

Want to share your idea with a broader audience? IT Governance connects the various IT areas across McMaster and you could find help among them, discover someone is doing something similar and you can join forces or want to let everyone know what you are doing so they can help support and market your initiative to the wider IT community.

Have an idea for a project proposal and need advice on next steps?

The IT Governance process starts with an idea which you may need to refine through proposing or joining an existing working group. Once the idea is refined through this collaboration, it is put into a proposal:

  1. Working groups and Standing Committees review and refine the proposal (this is an iterative process).
  2. The IT Executive approves the process (if required).
  3. The proposal answers 3 questions: are you procuring services from a vendor, are you hiring, and do you require funding. Based on these answers, various activities take place to ensure security, privacy, funds, etc.
  4. The project starts (see the Next steps after approval wiki) and its project leads report its status regularly until the project is complete.
